The Kellum Family and other pioneers arrived in west central Georgia in the early 1800s and helped establish a community known as Rough Edge. George Kellum and Missouri Ann Gordy were married in Mathews Chapel Methodist Church (c. 1832), which still stands as an active church and a landmark of the Rough Edge community.
Today, George Kellum's great-great-grandchildren own the Kellum Farm he established carrying on with his good stewardship. When they revisit the property there are reminders of days gone by. Alongside Kellum Road an old Magnolia tree stands at the site of the Kellum home place, and a sawdust mound not far away, is a reminder of commercial timber harvesting on the property decades ago.
