Land Overview: Hoof & Horn Ranch is located in Region 5, the Cross Timbers region of Texas. Rainfall averages 30 per year, and temperatures average around 67 degrees. The ranch is located 5 miles East of Zephyr, TX with paved frontage on CR 218.

Deer facilities:

Hoof and Horn is setup for a high intensity deer breeding operation. There 50 scientific deer breeder pens with water and shelters in each pen, deer working and handling facilities and numerous equipment sheds. The alley system leads to large soft-release pens with food plots for releasing or conditioning deer. The last deer were removed from the pens in 2013.

Native Pasture:

The owner has participated in NRCS programs for brush control and native grass re-seeding since 2004. The pasture is in exceptional condition with large stands of switchgrass, little bluestem, and other desirable native grasses. Re-growth mesquite and cedar is kept at a minimum. It is hard to find a ranch in this condition.

Improved pasture and cultivation:

Approximately 25% of the ranch is in improved pasture or cultivation. Crops include Coastal Bermuda hay, Klein grass, and winter wheat. The owner cut 1400 bales of hay in a single cutting in 2015.

Hunting rights are leased out to an outfitter who runs commercial package hunts. Typical mature whitetail bucks will score 150 170. Other species include Rio Grande turkey and Bobwhite quail. Winter wheat provides supplemental forage, while cottonseed and corn are fed through feeders.

Revenue production:
