Caballero Ranch

Once part of the renowned Olmos Ranch, and later the Welder/Dobie Ranch, this sprawling historic Ranch was once the home place of famous American folklorist J. Frank Dobie. It was on this soil that his interactions with local Vaqueros gave birth to his calling. As he listened to the Vaqueros talk over campfires at night, he seemed to be seeing a great painting of something Id known all my life, the stories of the Texas land. Shortly thereafter he released his first book, A Vaquero of the Brush Country, 1929.

Spanning 10,247.552 acres of precious South Texas habitat, the high fenced Caballero Ranch has approximately 5.5 miles of boundary along the famed Nueces River, and some of the best deer country in the State of Texas.
