Occasionally I struggle to find the words necessary to describe the natural beauty, quality, productivity, and historical significance of a tract of land. This is one such time, and the Two Toe Ranch is such a ranch.
Located approximately ten miles East of Seguin, Texas you will find the Two Toe Ranch along Highway 90A South right-of-way at the confluence of the Guadalupe River and Darst Creek. In fact, the respective waterways form the entire West and South boundaries of this amazing ranch. The highway forms the North boundary, meaning there is only one immediate neighbor to the ranch, which is to the East.

This gently rolling 519 acres features one and a half breathtaking miles of the Guadalupe River. The river is deep and wide in this area and its banks are lined with enormous Cypress, Pecan, Cottonwood, and centuries-old Live Oak Trees. The scenery and serene settings along the river valley are second to none, and the views from its accompanying hilltops are reminiscent of times past.
It boggles the mind to imagine what this land has seen over time, but you can almost feel it when you step into the iconic home overlooking the coastal fields that flow from the front steps to the river. a scene you cant possibly forget.
The home was originally constructed in the 1840s with locally harvested limestone rock and hardwoods. The original lumber consists of Live Oak, Walnut, and Cottonwood which is believed to have been milled at the water-driven sawmill that was in operation on the Darst Creek during that time. Newspapers found under the floors of the old structure indicate that it was partially remodeled and added onto during the 1940s, among them are old clippings about the war that uniquely date the work. The current owners of the ranch generously oversaw the meticulous restoration of the structure in 1997. The house is very comfortable and perfectly curated today, and begs the age-old saying, If these old walls could talk.
As we all know, water is life for all living things. Without water, life as we know it would not exist. While water is most certainly the most important natural resource to mankind, it may also be the most scarce natural resource of the future. Accordingly, the Two Toe Ranch has an abundance of both surface and groundwater. Sources include the Guadalupe River, Darst Creek, two ponds fed by rainwater and runoff, as well as five water wells, one of which serves a thirty-acre pivot system that irrigates approximately thirty acres of ground. If we were ever to run low on water, you would certainly want to find yourself at the Two Toe!
