Also on the property are two self-contained 400-square foot cabins with windows and porches overlooking the lake. The cabins are ideal for weekend guests or home office usage. The property is fenced with over a mile and a half of fencing that was installed in 2011. There are two water wells, two septic tanks, and electric lines run to the borders of the property. The property is close to the Lakeside Village marina and has more than __ feet of frontage onto FM 1270. It is approximately an hour and 15 minutes from downtown Fort Worth; the new Chisolm Trail Expressway (scheduled to be completed in 2014) will shorten the distance.
The three similarly-shaped Powelldale Mountains were important navigation markers for Brazos river canoes, flatboats and barges in the days before the railroad, and are shown on Stephen F. Austins first map of the new Republic of Texas. The ghost town of Powell Dale, from which the mesas take their namenow sunk beneath the waters of Lake Whitneyat one time had a post office, a school, and several businesses that included a cotton gin and a flour mill. The nearby hamlet of Kopperl and the surrounding area is the subject of Texas poet laureate Steve Fromholzs Texas Trilogy, record by Lyle Lovett, and the subsequent photo book, Texas Trilogy: Life in a Small Texas Town, by Craig Hills and Bruce Jordan.
The property may be purchased as a unit, or the lower fenced pasture and house can be purchased separately.
