North Fork John Day River: The property has 675 of the river on it with a large creek also running into the river. The pictures show the bridge over the creek. There is an excellent steelhead hole on the property with trout and Dolly Varden caught here. The North Fork is a clear, cold, wild and scenic river.
Recreation: This is an excellent area for elk and as we understand the owner has had no problem in harvesting elk here. Deer are also abundant as are grouse. I believe there are also quite a few turkeys. That is the reason for the walk in cooler. The pine and fir on the property are quite good. There are 7 acres on the south side of the river and 13 acres on the north side. BLM surrounds all of the property and that is a big, big plus.
General Observations: The home is secluded but has easy access to Highway 395. The climate is mild but like everywhere there are times when it is cold and very warm. The last few years have been very moderate. This certainly is a turn key operation as it is very easy to button it up and be gone for awhile. It is very quiet except for the river sounds. Also, in the fall you WILL hear elk bugling around you since it is a huge elk area. You are not far from Pendleton nor are you far from John Day. There are small stores close by if the need arises. Ukiah, where there is a school and other amenities, is about a 25 minute drive. This offers hunting, fishing, seclusion, quiet, water, timber and peaceful living conditions. It wont be right for everyone but for a few it will be just perfect.
