Lodge used extensively by Governor Edwin Edwards during him terms in office for parties, legislation meetings. Documented the only time in history the legislation body had 100% in attendance was at a meeting held at Whiskey Island Lodge.
Sitting room next to bedroom was a favorite place for Governor Edwards to collect his thoughts during retreats at the lodge. The original rocker he sat in is still there.

Whiskey Island was named in 1862 from the 8 families that lived on the island on the Ponchatoula River and made bootleg whiskey. Boats passing in the Ponchatoula River regularly took fire from these bootleggers as they passed to close to their stills.

Lodge is built of Pecky and Joyce cypress. Joyce cypress known as black sinker cypress. Only 600 acres known of this type of cypress grown is the US.
New flood zone elevation for Whiskey Island is 7ft. Most of grounds are at or near 7ft. This enables homes to be constructed on slabs.
