The nearby Abajo & La Sal Mountains are highly sought hunting tags through the State Draw. Monticello Lake, Foy Lake, & Blanding Reservoir offer trout fishing. While the San Juan River offers carp & channel catfish, and Lake Powell is excellent for Striped Bass. Golfing at the Hideout is highly recommended.

A mere 40 miles to the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park, and 60 miles to Arches National Park near Moab, Utah. Hiking, biking, trail running, camping and site seeing are abundant throughout this Four Corner region of the Colorado Plateau. Newspaper Rock Recreation Site is a short drive from Monticello. The rock is covered with petroglyphs.

Church Rock is another area attraction and can be seen from the bluffs of South-Canyon-Point. The Grist Mill Inn is a renovated old flour mill and a great place to stay. Another outstanding hidden treasure in this community is (Line Camp Steakhouse & Hotel). If you like authentic western buildings, and great grub, this is it.

Location: Monticello is the County Seat of San Juan County. Moab, Ut is roughly 50 miles north, & Cortez, Colorado is 60 miles east. Smaller local airports are in these 3 cities. Montrose, Colorado Airport (MTJ/KMTJ) is located 166 miles away, while Grand Junction, Colorado Airport (GJT/KGJT) is 168 miles away. These are the closest Regional Airports.

Area history is abundant, with local museums and cultural centers displaying diverse artifacts from generations past. Local specialty shopping provides wears of times gone by. Small town grocery store (Blue Mountain Foods), Monticello Merc True Value, and convenience store/gas stations provide for daily needs. Cortez will provide for larger items.

South-Canyon-Point Ranch is here for the taking. It is quiet, secluded, with amazing surrounding views. The maintained County Roads make for easier access. Watching the visiting & resident wildlife while enjoying the colorful sunrise & sunset and listening to the cattle sing, will bring a sense of peace.
