Garland is a small community that has southern charm. It's a place that everybody knows everyone. Tract is located just 17 miles south of Clinton N.C. and 37 miles east of Fayetteville. The community's roots can be traced back to the 1800s, initially called "Sloans Crossroads" a small community where agricultural products, lumber and turpentine were produced and shipped. In 1886 the railroad from Sanford to Wilmington spurred significant growth in the area. In 1907 the community was incorporated as "Garland" named for Augustus Hill Garland a former U.S. Attorney General. The Town of Garland is governed by an elected mayor and five commissioners. The town has all the modern conveniences of water and sewer along with a grocery store, Family Dollar and Dollar General located in the area. Garland is a couple of miles from the banks of South River offering some of the finest fishing and hunting in Eastern N.C. and only 15 miles from White Lake, N.C.
