Whitetail management history: When the property was purchased in 2001, the whitetail and axis density was high and most whitetail 1 yr bucks were spikes with an occasional and rare sighting of a single 8 point buck on the ranch. Since 2001, each 2 and 3 point buck that has been identified has been harvested.spotted is harvested. And particular emphasis was given to the immediate harvesting of spikes. Additionally older does are harvested to facilitate a quicker genetic turn over. After years of focusing on these goals, fewer and fewer spikes were observed. At that point, the trophy range was expanded to include 3 and 4 point bucks and/ or mature bucks (5 + years) that are under 8 points and without good brow tines. All other bucks have been left to breed and improve the herd.
