Professional foresters have been employed to manage Franklin Forest for sustainable growth of quality hardwood timber, wildlife habitat, and best conservation practices. The forest inventory completed this spring suggests it is time for a harvest of the most mature trees. A select harvest has been advised to reduce crowding to optimal stocking levels. The property is enrolled in the American Tree Farm System and the Indiana Classified Forest & Wildlands Program. As a result, all timber and other forest products from the property are certified as "Green" materials. The 2014 tax has not yet been assessed but is estimated to be less than $100. Parke County is recognized as one of the top big buck producing counties in Indiana. Since 1974, hunting in Franklin Forest has been limited to the owner and a few close friends (archery only) harvesting bucks 3 years or older. The property has a variety of terrain changes with two year-round creeks and a small pond stocked with bass and panfish. There are three gravel road frontages totaling approximately a half mile. An internal trail system has been maintained suitable for ATV-type travel for access within the property. There are several building sites with convenient access to the public road and to electrical lines. Building sites on the north and south sides of the pond are especially attractive. There are two CRP contracts in place on the farm. 21.5 acres consisting of 6 fields are planted in hardwood trees, paying $2,108 per year expiring 09/2017. One 4 acre field planted in grass paying $561 per year expiring 09/2020. Contact Travis Selby at 217-304-1686 for viewing arrangements. Viewings must be scheduled to access the property. Access to view the property will be granted to pre-approved financially qualified buyers only
