The Sargent Canyon Ranch is located in an area of rolling hills and canyons on the eastern slope of The Rim of the Guadalupe Mountains. Prominent features of the ranch are Sargent Canyon and Crooked Canyon. The ranch is well watered and has a good usable headquarters with a very nice up-dated home.

Divisions of the ranch include 9 large pastures and 4 traps which are watered by three water wells equipped with submersible electric motors and pumps. Two are powered by utility electricity and the third is solar powered. An extensive pipeline (1 200psi) crosses the ranch supplying water with 26 drinkers and 19 storage tanks many adjacent to the drinkers. Grasses on the ranch are predominantly Blue, Black and Side Oats Grama.
A very important feature of the ranch is in addition to being a great home for a cow or a combination cows/yearling operation is great hunting on the ranch for Mule Deer, Barbary Sheep, Dove and Quail which are hunted on the ranch and in the area.
Situated on the east side of the ranch is the headquarters consisting of a good set of steel pens with a cattle working chute, a barn/shop, an old school house converted to a tack room, twin overhead cake storage bins, a domestic well (one of the three wells on the ranch) equipped with a submersible electric motor and pump and a concrete storage tank. The ranch is located approximately 24 miles south of Hope, NM, 80 miles from Roswell and 93 miles from Cloudcroft, NM. The highway from Hope is paved for approximately 18 miles plus an additional 6 miles of all-weather, caliched road to the ranch.
Precipitation maps indicate that the ranch receives an average of 15 to 17 per year with very mild winters.
