Frontier Country Region, OK Land for Sale

Oklahoma's Frontier Country is located in the center of the state and includes Oklahoma City and the surrounding counties. The region is dominated by the largest urban area in the state, with Oklahoma City being the political, economic, tourism, commercial, industrial, financial, cultural and geographic hub of the state. It is also the state capital. The only city in this region that is not officially a suburb of Oklahoma City is Stillwater.

The landscape is primarily covered by the Cross Timbers, an area of prairie and patches of forest at the eastern end of the Great Plains. There are two protected areas in the region, Little River State Park and Oklahoma City National Memorial. Some other attractions in the region include Seminole Nation Museum, Oklahoma Firefighters Museum, Red Earth Art Center, Oklahoma's only museum dedicated to preserving Native American cultures, Oklahoma City Museum of Art, Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, Edmond Historical Society Museum, Myriad Botanical Gardens, Oklahoma Governor's Mansion, Science Museum Oklahoma, a hands-on science center featuring a planetarium, OmniDome Theater and the Air Space Museum, American Banjo Museum, International Gymnastics Hall of Fame, the American Pigeon Museum, International Photography Hall of Fame Museum, National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, Oklahoma City Zoo and National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Primary industries in the region include government operations, energy exploration, information technology, services, health services and administration. The State of Oklahoma is the largest employer in the region, employing more than 40,000. United States Air Force ? Tinker Air Force Base, University of Oklahoma, University of Central Oklahoma, and a regional hospital are the other major employers in the region. There are several large companies headquartered in Oklahoma City, including two energy companies and a large company with more than 420 truck stops and convenience stores in 40 states. Frontier Country is an important center of higher education, in addition to University of Oklahoma in Norman and Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, the state's two largest universities, and University of Central Oklahoma, other important institutions in the region include Oklahoma Christian University, Oklahoma City University, Langston University and the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha.

Oklahoma County is located in the center of Oklahoma's Frontier Country, and it is the most populated county in the state. Oklahoma City is the county seat and the state capital, and the largest city in the state. Other large cities are Edmond, Midwest City, Bethany and Del City, and there are 15 other cities and towns, and one unincorporated community. Oklahoma City National Memorial is located in the county and honors victims, survivors, rescuers who were involved in the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995. The largest employer in the county is the State of Oklahoma government, and there are also a number of large companies headquartered in Oklahoma City. Oklahoma State University ? Oklahoma City, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Mid-America Christian University, Oklahoma Christian University, Oklahoma City University, Oklahoma Baptist College and Oklahoma City Community College are located in Oklahoma County.

Canadian County is located in the western part of Oklahoma's Frontier Country, just west of Oklahoma County. It is the fifth most populated county in the state and is named for the Canadian and North Canadian Rivers which run through it. Yukon is the largest city and El Reno is the county seat. Other cities are Mustang, Piedmont, part of Oklahoma City, and part of Geary, and there are five other towns and unincorporated communities. The county provides a growing and diversified mix of business and industry, which includes agribusiness, manufacturing, oil and gas and retail trade. The county offers extensive economic development opportunities, top ranked schools, excellent business climate and the country's top career-technology network, Canadian Valley. Redlands Community College is also located in the county. There are nearly 25 sites on the National Registry of Historic Places, including Historic Fort Reno, the Canadian County Jail, several historic homes and other buildings and McGranahan Portion of the Chisholm Trail Roadbed. Some other attractions include Canadian County Historical Museum, Lake El Reno, featuring opportunities for waterskiing, swimming, boating, fishing and RV camping, and a casino.

Grady County is located in the western part of Oklahoma's Frontier Country, directly south of Canadian County. It was named in honor of Henry W. Grady, a journalist and editor of the Atlanta Constitution in the 1800s. Chickasha is the largest city and the county seat, and other cities are Blanchard, Minco and Tuttle, and there are more than 10 other towns and unincorporated communities. Grady County is located in the Red Bed Plains and its landscape primarily consists of rolling prairie. The northern border is formed by the Canadian River and the Washita River runs through the middle of the county. Grady's economy thrives on agribusiness, energy, manufacturing/distribution and tourism. There are hundreds of farms and ranches throughout the countryside. There are a number of sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places, most notable are Chickasha Downtown Historic District, Rock Island Depot, Oklahoma College for Women Historic District, Grady County Courthouse and Minco Armory. Some other attractions include Grady County Historical Museum and Grady County Farm Tours, where visitors can tour local farms, a research field managed by Oklahoma State University, and oil and gas production.
