Executive Summary:

The multitude of habitats make Big Slash Sporting Club extremely unique. Hunting in Green Timber, Tupelo/Cypress Brakes, Flooded Grain Fields, and Moist Soil Units, are all options at Big Slash. This diversity provides for all the needs of waterfowl during their annual migration. Waterfowl biologists preach that fresh water, food and security are all necessary to hold migrating ducks on a property. Big Slash has an ample supply of these critical waterfowl needs. Hundreds of acres of shallow water areas are managed through levee systems controlled by flashboard risers allowing for the fine tuning of water levels. There are 13 wells on the property which have been positioned strategically to service both the farming and hunting needs. Throughout the season, water levels are manipulated to flood new food so the ducks have a constant food source. Even during dry years, the owner reports that the farm can be brought to winter pool with well water in approximately two weeks, well before for opening day of duck season.

Large agricultural fields are interspersed throughout the property which provide buffers between the shallow water hunting areas. This allows for multiple groups to hunt the farm while resting critical areas to keep ducks feeling secure with no reason to leave the property. For example, groups hunting on the west side of the farm in the Mallard Hole and Airport Field will not impact the ducks resting on Cypress Brake on the east side or in the Slash in the middle of the farm. Through consistently rotating the hunting locations and not over pressuring the ducks, Big Slash has established a history of holding ducks all season long.

The high game fence surrounding the perimeter provides many added benefits. The fence secures the property borders and limits access to only a few controlled locations. Additionally, the fence allows for proper management of the deer herd to maximize each bucks potential. Whitetail bucks in the 200+ inch range have been harvested on the farm and the current owner has a meticulous management plan in place which propagates the most desired genetics and assures mature bucks are harvested. It is extremely rare to find a property that holds ducks like Big Slash and has world-class whitetail deer opportunities as well.

The Area: Big Slash is located only 2 miles east of the White River Refuge, a 150,000 acre contiguous block of bottomland forest habitat. The White River and nearby Cache River have historically supported one of the largest concentrations of wintering Mallards in the United States. Peak wintering Mallard numbers of 500,000 ducks have been estimated in these areas. As a result, wildlife biologists report that this area is one of the most important wintering areas for mallards in the southeast United States. It is common to see flights of Mallards coming from the refuge area to utilize the Big Slash property. Once these ducks experience the buffet table of food at Big Slash, many of them find it hard to leave. Only a few miles east of Big Slash is Big Cypress Creek, a White River tributary known for its importance to migrating waterfowl as well. In addition to being situated between the White River and Big Cypress Creek, Big Slash has two major drainages on-site creating a mini-flyway right through the property. Simply put, Big Slash represents a dream location for a waterfowl property.

Main Lodge: In the heart of the property, sits a 6 bedroom/5 bathroom log cabin style lodge overlooking one of the largest rest ponds on the property. The lodges central location allows easy access to most of the hunting areas. Several timber holes are within a 5 minute ATV ride of the lodge. The lodge is well-appointed for entertaining with two separate kitchen areas, two separate living room areas, two dining areas, and a recreation room. Each living area has its own wood burning fireplace. The lodge also boasts an office with a bay window overlooking a reservoir.

Mudroom/Storage Barn: Directly across from the entrance to the lodge is the separate mud room building. The mud room is approximately 12ft x 30ft and has 9 guest lockers, several boot racks, a gun cleaning table, lots of shelving and additional deep freezers. A 12ft x 30 ft covered porch is attached to the mud room with a game cleaning station and storage area.

Farm Shop: Approximately 1,200 sf storage building perfect for a workshop and storing decoys, boats, Argos, ATVs, UTVs, etc.
