This astounding property is a rare gem for Central Nebraska. The Owner has spent 20 years developing and refining the habitat on the property to maximize waterfowl and upland game populations. The pit is electrified, allowing for heating, cooking, and coffee making. It is bi-directional, so you can shoot from whichever direction the birds are coming from. This “pit pond” is the only pond that is hunted. The sloughs and other ponds are left undisturbed. This keeps the large population around the area, and habitually coming back year after year. While the pond water is kept open to draw ducks during duck season, it is allowed to freeze during goose season, allowing for an inviting sheet of ice for the geese. There are 18 acres (26 CIA’s) of pivot-irriagted milo that surround the pit ponds and provide exceptional feed for both upland game and deer.
There are 944 acres of the farm enrolled in the WRP, planted in CRP type grasses and native sunflowers and hemp, which provide ample cover and food for the pheasants and quail. While touring this property, pheasants will fly at every turn, and can be heard all around from nearly any point on the property. The Owner has specifically managed the property to increase bird populations. The Owner estimates that the property is home to over 30 coveys of quail.
As this property has 1.4 miles of river frontage, loads of cover, and plenty of feed, the whitetail deer are large and abundant. The deer have not been the main focus of the current hunters, and so they inhabit the property in quantity. Trail camera pictures show enormous bucks. Excellent fishing can be had in the ponds, yielding Bluegill, Large-mouth Bass and Catfish.
This property has excellent access and great storage with a Quonset, machine shed, workshop/garage, and a small building that serves as an office.
