Turning to ones left one sees a chefs kitchen with high end appliances, custom maple cabinetry, multiple stainless-steel sinks, and Italian granite countertops. On exit from the kitchen towards the windows there is a large but congenial dining room, partly enclosed by a wooden and glass exhibition cabinet and a custom-made curly maple dining set for eight, and its matching credenza.
On the kitchens right is the hallway to the master suite. The bedroom faces the ocean, and has 14ft cathedral ceilings, concealed and adjustable lighting, and its own gas fireplace. The king bedstead, hand crafted by local artisans from solid curly maple, has drawers beneath. Like the great room, it is light, spacious and welcoming.
Proceeding from the bedroom to the dressing room, one discovers a walk-in closet with custom made doors and shelving which is flanked by a paneled wooden door behind which is a folding ironing board with outlet and electrical controls. There is a custom maple cabinet with dual sets of drawers and twin semi-circular stainless-steel sinks. Adjustable lighting, both direct and indirect, illuminates multiple mirrors. Finally, one comes to the marble tiled bath, with glass fronted and twin shower heads and large heated towel rack.
On the kitchens left is a corridor that branches first to the pantry and garage, and before continuing past a pair of louvered storage cabinets, then passes the laundry room with its half bath, finally ending in the workshop wing, which is fully equipped with Corian and black marble counters, multiple drawers, book shelves, two exhaust fans, a custom center island with vice, a full-sized sink, a jewelers workbench with shelving and marble countertop alongside. It has restful views of the ocean and the side garden and lemon trees. A door at the rear opens upon a courtyard with flowering trees and a path leading to the garage.
Passing back into and through the great room, one comes to a lower entry to two story the guest and library wing. On the ground floor there is a bedroom with ocean view, a marble-tiled bathroom with jacuzzi tub, glass fronted shower and heated towel rack, and a library or second bedroom encircled by glass-fronted cabinets. Ascending the curved solid cherry staircase, one comes a Juliet balcony overlooking the great room and passes into a short corridor, with a spacious office facing the ocean and sitting room opposite, and yet another bathroom, with sink and glass-fronted steam shower.
The front garden area has two Meyer lemon trees, an ornamental cherry, two magnolias; several species of Japanese maples; rhododendrons; a remarkable Australian tea tree hedge fronting the deck; lavenders; Mexican sage; euphorbias, wild irises, and other deer and drought resistant plants. Its also home to the ground mounted solar panel array.
In the back of the house, ones eye is drawn a tall retaining wall completely covered by a 40 ft. long cotoneaster planting. The gate into the garden is crowned by an exuberant tea rose, and its gravel paths are lined with native stone and meander by the blueberry bushes, mature cherry and apple trees, ornamental shrubs and trees, a ventilated greenhouse shaded with flourishing rock rose, and four irrigated raised beds for herbs, berries and vegetables.
All in all, a true celebration of place and nature.
