This is a very beautiful part of Wisconsin, within Marinette Co, which has the most waterfalls by county of the state, and Marinette County contains 304 rivers and streams with a total length of 920 miles. The ground is sandy, and there are granite rock boulders and outcroppings.
Per Wikipedia: t is formed approximately 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Iron Mountain, Michigan, by the confluence of the Brule and Michigamme rivers. As the Menominee flows southeast it picks up the Pine River and travels past Kingsford, Michigan and Niagara, Wisconsin. It then flows generally south, making broad meanders collecting the Sturgeon, Pemebonwon and Pike rivers. It enters Green Bay on Lake Michigan from the north between Marinette, Wisconsin and Menominee, Michigan. Also, per WDNR: After decades of hard work, all the necessary actions to clean up and restore the Lower Menominee River Area of Concern have been completed and restoration goals have been achieved and documented. Six problems, called "Beneficial Use Impairments" in the AOC Program, that were listed for the Lower Menominee River have also been formally removed.
There are 191 rivers and streams, (totaling 614 miles) classified as trout waters. These are the highest number of trout streams and miles of trout streams of any county in the state. The Menominee River flows 84 miles and drains 4,055 square miles of Wisconsin, not to mention the drainage from Michigan.
