The community of Potlatch, Idaho was originally founded by Potlatch Lumber Company as a company town and once boasted being the location of the largest sawmill in the world. The rich history of this community can be found at the historic Potlatch Depot. Potlatch also lies along the White Pine Scenic Byway close to year round recreational activities such as hunting, fishing and camping. The Laird Park Campground in the Clearwater National Forest which has a swim park and trails is only about 20 minutes from Potlatch. About 31 miles in the other direction, is the 5300 rugged acres of Mary McCroskey State Park which offers even more outdoor recreation especially for horseback and ATV riders.
