As the name implies, the property is greatly influenced by Duck Creek, a live creek which heads northwest of Dickens along the Caprock Escarpment and flows for approximately 40 miles, ultimately draining into the Salt Fork of the Brazos River approximately mile south of this property. Duck Creek primarily spring fed and is lined by large cottonwoods, and even a few cypress trees dot the banks of the creek along with hackberry, groves of soapberry, elms, juniper, some salt cedar and other hardwood trees. The creek is located in the eastern portion of the property flowing from north to south.

The central portion of the property is more open and has a scattered cover provided by medium sized mesquites. This portion of the property was once cultivated farmland, now regrown back to grasses and forbs. Soils are fertile and deep and this area would be well suited for wildlife foodplots.

The western portion of the property ascends upon some hillsides where more dense canopies of mesquite are prevalent.

As previously mentioned, the deeded easement access, topography along the western portion of the property and larger neighboring properties give the Duck Creek Ranch a feel of being larger and more remote.

In an effort to create a large pool of water along the creek, the current owner constructed a massive concrete dam across the creek. The spillway is up the creek, which diverted the flow of the creek to go around the dam. Bass, catfish, gar and perch are frequently seen in this area of the creek.

Electricity is available on the property, and subsurface water in this area along the creek is generally very good. An abandoned irrigation well is located on the northern portion of the ranch. Two concrete drinking troughs are located on the property, currently not in use, but both appearing to be usable and in good condition.

Whitetail and mule deer are both found in this area, with whitetail numbers being very strong. Turkey are found in very good numbers, as well as migratory birds, hogs and varmints.

This is a true four season recreation property, offering enjoyable weather for camping throughout the spring and fall, as well as hunting and fishing year round.
