Lacks Creeks carves a deep canyon bordered by 3,000-4,000 foot peaks as it rushed for seven miles to the main stem of Redwood Creek. Its cool water contain populations of threstened coho and chinook salmon, steelhead, and cutthroat trouts. Steep tributary streams on the east side of the watershed form spectacular waterfalls and deep pools under a dark canopy of old growth Douglas fir forest, young growth Douglas-Fir and native stands of Redwoods. Lacks Creek is within the Redwood National Park Protection Zone. The purpose of the act is to protect the irreplaceable resources of the park from being damaged by upstream land uses. Under PL 95-250, the Secretary of the Interior is authorized to purchase lands or interest in lands to protect downstream resources. The United Nations has designated Redwood National Park as a World Heritage Site and one of only 226 International Biosphere Sites worldwide. These present lands have been harvested. The seller states current cruises contain approximately five million board feet of primarily Douglas-fir and some Redwoods.
