Elm Farm

Until the 1950s, this area landmark had been a busy working farm. In the same family for over 160 years, the main house is a classic brick house with attached cape-style ell, with the focal point of this property being the traditional style 1865 drive-through barn. With land on both sides of a country highway, the land total is 48.6 acres.

The Samuel Nutt House is an attractive and well maintained colonial with true brick construction that was purchased by the Pettee family in 1873. It was named Elm Farm because nine stately elms graced the farmyard. During its history, the farm managed large herds of sheep, poultry, and one of the finest herds of Gurnsey cattle in New England. Orchards and produce rounded out its production. Interesting to note, this was also the location of the first Francestown Telephone Company, started by the Pettees.
