The Zoo Hunting Club is comprised of 1,842 high fenced acres of prime hunting and fishing habitat. The property was purchased in 1996 and has been managed for deer, turkey, and bass fishing since day one. The Zoo is located in Grand Junction, TN. Grand Junction is approximately 50 miles east of Memphis and 50 miles southwest of Jackson, TN.
The 1,842 acre, contiguous tract is made up of approximately 1,200 acres of mature hardwood timber, 400 acres of cultivated farm land, and 250 acres in food plots, roads, grass land and 45 acre lake. Income from the farming keeps club dues extremely low. There are numerous food plots and clover fields throughout property, as well as over 40 deer stands. The habitat is rolling with hardwood ridges and deep bottoms with thick vegetation. There are around 40 food plots of various sizes that total about 75 acres. The food plots are are a variety of winter feed such as: clover, sunflower, millet, milo, joint vetch, winter peas, oats, turnips and chufa. Most of the planted field acreage forms a horseshoe with hardwood ridges and bottom surrounding, so the deer and turkeys have a quick route of dense cover to travel from feeding to bedding/roosting areas.
The high fence was constructed in 2005 to further enhance the deer herd and enhance the hunting. The fence is 8 1/2 miles of 8 foot tall, high tensile strength, galvanized steel. There are nine sets of double gates around perimeter of property, including main gates which are operated by automatic opener.
The lake was built in 1960 by the Corps of Engineers to control the flow of Indian Creek. The total lake area is 87 acres. Approximately 45 acres of the lake is on zoo property. The remaining 42 acres is owned by two adjoining property owners (father and son). The Zoo portion of lake holds deeper water and the control wheel to spillway. Because of natural springs and Indian Creek flow, the water is constant year round. Structure is added yearly to enhance bass fishing and bream are fed with feeders to provide better protein for the bass. Catching two to seven pound bass is normal, with largest catch over 11 lbs.
