TERRAIN AND VEGATATION: The Pitman Ranch is mostly composed of good loamy soil with native grass species such as Blue, Black and Side Oats grama, New Mexico Feather Grass (Buck Grass) and other species of Drop Seeds. The ranch also boasts winter browses which include Winter Fat and Chemise. This area is known as some of the best cow country in the southwest. This ranch is a great combination of rolling hill with light tree coverage, valleys, along with open range.
WATER: The Pitman Ranch is well watered with two wells. Both are electric submersible pumps which pump into a pipeline system which consists of a large storage on a high hill then gravity feeds back to the whole ranch. There is also a storage located at the headquarters which helps to supply the pipeline along the south side of the ranch. Along the pipe line you can find 19 miles of pipeline into every pasture and trap with 20 drinkers. This ranch has many grassy draws that culminate into Playa Lakes that add water for the livestock and can boast that all the rain that falls on the ranch stays on the ranch with no drainages leaving the ranch.
LIVESTOCK OPERATION: This ranch has been used as a cow calf operation for several years. It will carry 350 pairs depending on the rain fall. This area is also known for yearlings operations and would be an excellent ranch for yearlings. The rancher in the area that run yearlings usually come in around late March or April and deliver around the middle of October. Gains of 300 plus pounds are the usual norm for this type of operation.
IMPROVEMENTS: The headquarters consists of a three bedroom rock home and has a good set of pipe shipping pens with a working ally, squeeze chute and livestock scales. The headquarters also has overhead cake storage and molasses storage that will hold a tanker load. There is another set of working corrals located in the center of the ranch with traps around the pens.
WILDLIFE: The Pitman Ranch is home to Pronghorn Antelope, Mule Deer and Blue Quail are also found on this property.
