This home was completed in 1898, and was the first residence of Ewing & Mattie (Brosig) Norwood. Mr. Norwood was President of the First National Bank of Navasota. The home was designed and built by local architect, Ernest Lord. It exhibits Queen Anne influences in the entry and porch detailing, and features a depressed arch & a balustrade over the entryway. Other features include a wrap around porch, and upper balcony. The front door is leaded glass. The entry has a 14 foot bay window with a window seat the width of the window. The staircase was hand carved and took over three years to complete. The house is mainly constructed of Cypress wood, and inside Burled Curley Pine. The entry includes double arches, the original elevator and original gas lights converted to electric. Chandeliers adorn the living and dining rooms, and hang from the 14 foot ceilings. Original hardwood floors remain in the home. The original kitchen was totally remodeled in 2008 by current owners, and a 260 s.f. guest house was built at that time.
