308 SOUTH JEFFERSON STREET

PROPERTY OVERVIEW

The log home at 308 South Jefferson has a rich heritage that dates to the 1800s. In the beginning, the home was situate on a 76 acre farm on Laurel Creek, in the wilderness of northern Greenbrier County near Beech Knob. Huge Poplar logs where hand hewn by broad axe to create the homes exterior. Stone masons hand-cut the native stone used for the chimney and foundation.

The owner of the farm pledged the property and home to Lewisburg Motors, as collateral for a 1945 Ford flatbed truck. When the payments could not be made on the truck, the owner deeded the property to the dealerships owner, E.A Tuckwiller, and then he left the country. In 1947, Tuckwiller moved the home some 45 miles, lock, stock, and barrel, to its present location on South Jefferson Street.
