Water: There are many springs spread throughout the property. In the northern portion, Grub creek runs through for 1 ¼ miles. This creek runs intermittently in the late summer months. In the southern part of the ranch there is also another intermittent creek called Castle creek. These springs and creeks provide plenty of water for cows, elk and deer. There is also ½ mile of the John Day river that flows through the property. The John Day has a solid run of steelhead that return to spawn each spring. Trout and bass can also be caught along the banks of the John Day.
General: The southern half is made up of deep draws, open hillsides, cottonwood draws and juniper covered flats with very small amounts of pine. The northern half of the ranch is timbered with both young and commercial pine and fir. Large draws, hog backs, many wildlife pockets and mahogany covered ridges would explain what you will see when viewing the ranch.
Wildlife: This is a proven recreational ranch. Many big bucks and big bulls have been taken off the ranch in past years. Pictures are truly worth a thousand words when wondering if the ranch holds any game. Many bucks are taken in the southern portion of the ranch because of its proximity to the green feed of the irrigated meadows below. Elk can and have been found all over the ranch from the beginning to the end with most taken in the northern portion. Bucks in this area can easily reach the 200 class and bulls can also reach the 330-350 class.
