The Vaquero Venado Ranch is a 1,171+/- acre hunting ranch located in Duval County 13 miles south of Freer and 10 miles north of Benavides, which is a well-known for having Trophy deer county in South Texas. The main ranch house has approximately 2240 square feet of living area with a composite shingle roof on a concrete slab. There is a porch of approximately 818 square feet and it has a carport of approximately 403 square feet. The ranch house has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with a large main living area and kitchen. There are oak cabinets and an electric stove. The flooring is tile throughout the ranch house and is cooled by window cooling units. The guest house is approximately 622 square feet and sits on a concrete slab with concrete block walls and a shingle roof. There is a 374 square foot porch along the front of the building. The houses have a water well and septic tank. In total, there are 3 water wells and a two small ponds used for livestock and both native & exotic species for a water supply. There are also several concrete water troughs spread throughout the property. According to the current owner the property has a one to three buck to doe ratio. Native game includes Whitetail Deer, Quail, Dove & Turkey. Exotic species include Axis Deer and Rams. The ranch has 3 water wells one with an electrical submersible pump and the other 2 may be pumped using a generator. The ranch is located on gently rolling hills with elevation changes from 590 to 630. The ranch is high-fenced with net wire perimeter fencing with a strand of barbed wire along the top. There is a pipe and metal panel cattle pen located near the ranch house. Game on the ranch includes white tailed deer, quail, dove, turkey, javelina and varmints common to Duval County. The ranch also has Axis and Fallow deer. The Vaquero vend Ranch has mostly heavy native brush including mesquite, black brush, persimmon, hackberry trees & prickly pear and has approximately 16 protein plants, ideal for feeding and growing the big South Texas Deer we have all come to love. The majority of the brush is mid height level and the brush canopy is fairly dense giving the deer the sanctuary the desire. The larger brush is located in the lower drainage areas of the ranch.
Soils on the ranch can be characterized as gravelly sand on the higher elevations to sandy/clay soils in the lower drainage areas. The main soil types include Benavides Fine Sandy loam, Olmeda Gravelly Sandy Loam and Piedras & Cuevitas soils. There is no oil and gas activity on the property. To the best of owner's knowledge, there are no electric transmission lines or pipeline easements. A 30 ingress/egress easement is located along the northeast boundary of the ranch in favor of the adjoining neighbor. The easement is fenced out of the ranch.
