HISTORIC HOME & HORSE FARM
THE HOME
The main level of this home has a spacious family room with fireplace just off the side foyer. The kitchen is a chefs’ delight with appliances, granite countertops, beautiful cabinetry and lots of storage. The breakfast room, a half bath and sun room with outstanding views are just off the kitchen. An elegant dining room, entrance hall with original stairs and living room are all part of the original home.

The roomy master suite gives you your own space with “his and her” baths, ample closets, a balcony with views to the back and a restful screened porch with hot tub.
Upstairs are the second and third bedrooms with the third full bath. The basement under the original part of the home has a storage room and mechanical equipment.
Other features include fireplaces, security system, wet bar, new replacement windows, three-car garage, patio, playhouse, blacktop driveway with circular drive and lots of seclusion. This home is on natural gas, county water and a septic system.
THE LAND
Astride a high ridge east of Owensboro, this home has many desirable features. From every window the views of the countryside are peaceful and unobstructed (except for a few deer and turkey). Families have enjoyed the farm because the 21.27 acres give you more room to ride and roam. The horse barns have a total of 18 stalls, a hobby area, additional storage and lots of nooks and crannies that kids love. Also the heated in-ground pool is great for families and entertaining. Being 1/2 mile off the highway offers lots of privacy and security.
The fact that this home has over 21 acres within a mile or so of the planned US 60 By-pass Extension, and is near the OMHS hospital campus site gives you investment qualities you would not get with just a house and lot.
THE HISTORY
If the brick walls of this home or the stalls in the barn could talk, they would tell a story that would include an aide to Napoleon and a Kentucky Derby winner. The home was built in the mid 1800’s by Colonel Justus T. Vairin, a bodyguard of the famous French ruler. Original hardwood floors, door hardware, locks and the brick floored “kitchen” with cooking fireplace in the basement take you back a century and a half. In the early 1980’s, a thoroughbred mare had a foal on this farm. Spend a Buck, one of 1000’s to be born that year, became an outstanding three year old winner and won the 1985 Kentucky Derby.
Today two horse barns, one with 15 stalls and one with three stalls, along with adjoining paddocks are part of this outstanding property.
