Gillette, Wyoming, became a town in 1982 as a temporary base camp for the Burlington and Missouri Railroad. Engineer Edward Gillette was in charge of surveying the area. Edward shortened the route by 5 miles and 30 bridges. The Lincoln Land and Livestock Company planned the town and sold the lots. The town was a success, with ranchers, cowboys, and homesteaders trying to make a life in the countryside surrounding the town.
