Welcome to The Down East Lodge of Davis, NC! If we were to write the basic listing description of this home, telling you about the open kitchen, spacious living room, or the many bedrooms, then we wouldn't be doing this historic property, the owner, or this community any justice. So, instead, I'll start off by doing my best to capture the generational heritage and many stories that this unique home has organically contributed to the Down East community. The Davis family constructed the original home at the end of Community Road between 1890 and 1905 (we are still working to gain exact dates). This remained the fixed location for nearly 30 years until it was moved to the current location and elevated above the flood plane in 1936. The Davis family resided in this location for multiple generations, passing ownership down through each family member as time went on. In 1982, it was decided that more space was required, so a large amount of the home was added onto, updated and completely reconstructed. They even went as far as moving the staircase to the middle of the home to provide a more open flow. The home remained in the Davis family for over 100 years until it changed hands in 2014, which is when the new owners decided to do some needed upgrades, such as building all of the porches that reach the third floor, providing a view of the sound and bringing the property up to code for use as a short-term rental if so desired. With a new roof installed in 2018 and a new water heater in 2022, and having weathered every hurricane the Crystal Coast has seen since it was constructed, this home is ready for its new owners. For the last decade, the Down East Lodge has been used by groups of outdoor enthusiasts and beach lovers alike visiting the vast eastern Carteret County area who wish to take advantage of the world-class fishing, duck hunting and other outdoor activities. This home comes completely furnished to fill its five bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms. Included with the sale are 23 beds that fill every bedroom of this home while still having plenty of space to move around comfortably with a group. Guests who have stayed here have enjoyed the convenient location of the two ferries leaving the island for more adventures, the great inshore and offshore fishing within eyesight of the third floor, multiple waterfowl hunting opportunities, and, of course, the beautiful beaches of the Crystal Coast all within minutes of the lodge. If you are wondering if the town of Davis will work for your needs, we have information on that, too! Just across the street, within walking distance of the lodge, is the Jim Dandy store, where a local grill can be found for breakfast and lunch, as well as fuel and ice. Directly across from Jim Dandy sits the Davis Shore Provisions General Store, where you will find all the beach supplies, sunscreen, and anything else you may need. Also within walking distance of the lodge on Horseshoe Road is the Cape Lookout Ferry Service, which provides daily rides to Cape Lookout for a more remote island experience. A short drive west will take you to a full-service grocery store called Lookout Grocery, or a short drive east will take you to the Cedar Island Ferry Service, where you can enjoy a trip over to Ocracoke Island and all that island has to offer. I could talk about the many other aspects of the Down East community, such as the public boat ramps within close proximity or the shrimping and crabbing opportunities, although I would have too much to say and run out of space, so just let us know what you want to know!If you are interested in learning more about this home, please give us a call!Showings are by appointment only and are scheduled with the Whitetail Properties Real Estate office in Morehead City, NC.For other questions, please give listing agent Dillon Eckert a call.
