The Iron Mask Lode property is located in an area surrounded by USFS (United States Forest Service) and BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land. The BLM and Forest Service have established a right-of-way that provides privacy and access to the property. This right-of-way is primarily for access and not for maintenance beyond the first 200 ft. off the Indian Creek Road. The last segment of the road leading to the Iron Mask Lode parcel is closed to the public and leads to the Forest Service boundary.

The BLM lands in the area are managed under the Elkhorns Mountains Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC) management guidance. This management guidance restricts motorized travel to designated routes in order to protect wildlife and non-motorized recreation values. The current owner's requested authorization is to primarily use the existing designated route and the occasional use for cabin access would not have a significant impact on the existing road. Therefore, the road right-of-way authorization request is for the existing 12- to 14-foot-wide natural road surface within a 25-foot-wide road right-of-way.

The Montana Bureau of Mines & Geology is currently conducting tests to determine the presence of minerals on the Iron Mask Lode. Additional testing and fieldwork are scheduled for July and August.

The owner of the property built a road last year that may require some smoothing out. At the end of this road, there are rock outcroppings where footings have been installed to build a deck. The owner planned to construct a 10'x12' cabin on this deck. The location offers beautiful views of the surrounding Elkhorn Mountains and parks, making it an ideal spot for spotting elk and deer.
