Overview: The Wood Duck Hunting Club is comprised of Approximately 277 acres of prime waterfowl hunting land on the Historical Nash Prairie in NW Brazoria County. It is located approximately 6 miles SW of Brazos Bend State Park and 20 miles NW of the Justin Hurst Wildlife Management Area and the San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge. Location: This property is located approximately 4 miles SE of Damon, 19 miles SW of Rosharon, and 35 miles SW of the Sam Houston Parkway in NW Brazoria County. It is located on the Historical Nash Prairie approximately 4 miles west of the Brazos River. The property is accessed via blacktop County Rd. 18.
Habitat Type(s): The property consists of approximately 218 acres of wet prairie (waterfowl impoundments). The remaining acreage consists of upland prairie, woods, and riparian zone bordering Cow Creek. The soils are of exceptional soil types.
Wildlife: This property is located in an area of the state that is well known for it's outstanding waterfowl hunting. An abundance of ducks, geese, sandhill cranes, and other wetland wildlife are present during the fall and winter months. The property also provides habitat for native nesting mottled ducks, black bellied whistling ducks, wood ducks, and other wetland dependent wildlife. There is a healthy population of Deer and feral hogs. Dove hunting can also be exceptional.
Water: The property contains 1 six inch electric water well that supplies water to the waterfowl impoundments and fish pond. There is also a four inch domestic water well that supplies water to the lodge/camp area. A highly productive freshwater sand strata over 1000' thick exists beneath the property.
Improvements: There are 4 waterfowl impoundments, complete with flash-board water control structures. A well designed and functioning water delivery and drainage system is in place to move water throughout the entire property. There is a 1 acre fish pond with lighted fishing pier. The pond is stocked with largemouth bass, channel catfish, blue gill bream, and forage fish. The lodge/camp area consists of a 35' travel trailer with large covered deck. There is a large open covered storage/barn area with 2 large Con Ex storage containers, metal shop, and game cleaning area. The property has barbed wire perimeter fencing. Property has an existing Wildlife Management Plan and Wildlife Tax Exemption (Valuation).
