Rooster Junction

Standing on the edge of the field, pheasants can be heard calling to one another in all directions. Driving along the rows of plum thicket, Russian Olive, and Cedar, pheasants begin to rise all around us. One or two at first, but soon the rush of beating wings can be heard over the rumbling whine of the ATV. Dozens of pheasants rise out of the tree rows, flying straight up in order to clear the branches, making perfect targets for even novice hunters. This continues the entire length of the row. And the next row. And the next. I estimate that I saw well over 1,000 pheasants during our tour of the property. As we near the pivot irrigated cornfield, we disturb a herd of deer over 35 strong, with Whitetails and Mule deer together in equal proportion, coming to feed on the ample bounty left of the corn field.
