Bland, VA 24314(Bland County)

The property is dissected by four long north-south oriented hollows flattening into bowl shaped coves on the middle to upper slopes. These bowls and benches have good quality oak and poplar with some white pine, sugar maple and hickory. The lower northwest facing slopes and spur ridges are predominantly white pine from 12 to 36 inches in diameter and averaging 18 to 24 inches. The white pine is growing along with yellow pine, white oak and scarlet oak on these lower northwest slopes and ridges. The long northeast facing slopes are mixed oak (red, black, chestnut and scarlet oak) on the upper one-half of the tract and a mixture of white pine, oak and hemlock on the lower half. There is good access up the main drainages and across (east-west) drainages from old forest fire prevention roads constructed by a former owner.

A good shale and creek rock base road leads from route 612 through two fields (3.4 +/- acres and 7. 2 +/- acres) at the front of the property and connects to trails that run up and across the four north-south hollows. These roads and trails are good still hunting avenues for deer and bear hunting and calling spring gobblers. A long, narrow clearcut with a small stream at the northeast corner of the tract offers a good site for building a large pond in a v-shaped notch at its east end. The long perimeter of the clearcut and the stream and logging road that snakes through it creates edge habitat that attracts deer, bear and turkey.

Approximately 1.2 million board feet of mature sawtimber. Good roads for trucking and close to sawmills and forest products companies.
