The Averitt-Pugh-Thompson House is located in historic Woodville, NC and sits on approximately 8.3 acres. This 1860 antebellum house has a classic Greek Revival-Italianate form with broad proportions and hip roof, typical of the antebellum era. The two-story home has three-bay double pile frame house and two interior brick chimneys and large windows with Italianate hood molds. It underwent extensive remodeling in the Craftsman Tudor style about 1917. The house was built by Colonel Jesse Averitt in 1830, but Joseph James Pugh constructed the present house about 1860 to replace the earlier house, and lived here with his family until his death in 1880. William Clark Thompson, a son of Lewis Thompson, purchased it, and his son, Lewis Thompson remodeled it in 1917 and lived here until his death in the 1950s. In the late 1950s Lewis Thompson's widow, his son and his wife were still living there. The home has been maintained and repaired over the last 25 years by the present owner. There are 12 foot ceilings on the first floor and 10 foot ceilings on the second floor and wide plank heart pine floors are found throughout the home. There are four large rooms located downstairs with a central foyer. Upstairs, there is a large open area at the top of the stairs with an additional four rooms. There are fireplaces in every room, although some of them have been closed. There is one full bathroom downstairs and one upstairs. There is central heating and air conditioning on the first floor. There are two outbuildings in the backyard. One is a two room building with a fireplace and the other is a one room storage building. The 8.3 acres has many mature trees including pines and magnolias.
