The house is wired for 110 volt electricity and includes an Outback Inverter with 12 storage batteries enclosed in a wooden storage cabinet and vented to the outdoors. The batteries are currently recharged by a portable generator but system is designed to add solar panels and/or a wind turbine. The current system is adequate for lighting, fans, satellite TV, microwave and other small appliances but could be expanded. It can accommodate larger appliances such as a window mounted air conditioner, while generator is running.
The year-round domestic water system includes an underground spring-fed poly tank from which the water is pumped to another underground poly storage tank buried on a hill above the house. Water is then gravity fed to the house. Each filling takes about 30 minutes of pumping and with average use, lasts about a week. The water is pumped by attaching a generator to wiring in the garage.
