This parcel has been owned by the current owner and family since 1967. The hunting has been done by primarily a very limited number of family members and QDMA has been enforced on the property for the past 6 years harvesting older bucks only and a very limited number of does. The deer numbers are very high and the number of mature deer is high as well due to the management practices in place. The owner has harvested his buck every year for the past 12 years before noon on the first day of the gun season. It is a great mix of hardwoods and higher ground as well as thick cedar swamp and pines. Several creeks run through the property and the bedding areas and fawning areas are numerous. There was significant sign in the form of rubs and scrapes from this past season’s rut when I walked the property in April of 2017. Access to the property is from two gravel county roads and with those being the only access points it truly provides the sanctuary type cover to hold this deer herd in place. By continuing the management program here it will allow the harvesting of great bucks now and in the future. There is a large turkey population as well with several long beards seen while on the property recently. There are electricity and a septic system already in place at a camping site right near the road. The property has an old railroad bed running diagonally thru it allowing for access to stands and blinds in any conditions.
