Here is a wonderful opportunity for a mountain retreat only 30 minutes from downtown Charlottesville/UVA and 10 minutes from the vibrant village of Crozet. In his design, Architect Bill Atwood, AIA, drew upon the Italian sanctuaries in the Tuscan highlands to capture the natural elements of topography and thermal breezes in his one-level design. The concept comes naturally to this setting where the principal residence is separated by a breezeway from the guest quarters across the sunny courtyard to create a private compound. All of the principal rooms enjoy a true southern exposure and connect one to the other on the interior by a long transverse hallway as well as by the open deck overlooking the five acre pasture and Rockfish Valley below. Workmanship is outstanding with custom cabinets and bookcases complemented by five stone fireplaces and a selection of superb appliances and fixture...
Workmanship is outstanding with custom cabinets and bookcases complemented by five stone fireplaces and a selection of superb appliances and fixtures. The Master Suite is particularly appealing in its separate private baths and separate private walk-in closets. In one is a master laundry with ASKO washer and dryer to complement the second laundry off the kitchen. Efficient heating and cooling is protected by a Whole house generator for those unexpected occasions. The Guest cottage began as separate offices for a previous owner but evolved into one (or two) bedrooms with full bath and Galley Kitchen. The second bedroom has been used as a living room as well and both principal rooms have skylights. There is a small, private deck off the Guest Cottage as well as a circulating pump water trough for the goldfish. Here, too, is a water collection system taking run-off from the Guest Cottage roof into a 500 gallon container for the courtyard gardens and plants. a two car garage completes the improvements in the immediate compound. But there is more ....... The heated indoor pool is 12' X 40' and enclosed in a 25' X 50' building with skylights and passive solar elements. The pool has a dressing area as well as a full bath. The southern line of the Pool building has a large deck also overlooking the Rockfish Valley. There is also a small building built by the previous owners as a chapel and is a great place for meditation, yoga and reflection upon the extraordinary character of the Blue Ridge and the nearby Shenandoah National Park. The Park is about one mile farther up the mountain and easily accessible.
