The Ridge Bottom Ranch
153 +/- Acres
Wilbarger County, TX
This is diverse hunting tract in the rolling hills of Northwest Texas - very private and unique. The ranch lies in between the Red and Pease River valleys in Wilbarger County and is just four miles west of where the two rivers join.
This property is very diverse. Upon entering the ranch from its private, deeded lane to the north, a person will find themselves on top of a long ridge that runs west to east across the whole property. This ridge is lined with a tall chinaberry grove that not only adds to the beauty of the ranch, but also provides excellent cover for deer and turkey.
Below the ridge on the west side are two seep tanks and a hackberry thicket. These tanks could easily be dug out and combined to make one large pond. They are called "seep" tanks because they fill up from underneath when the water table rises.

Beyond the two tanks is a large open pasture, great for rifle hunting. This pasture is filled with plum thickets, tall grasses, and native brush, and provides excellent bedding for deer and great cover for bobwhite quail.
East of the pasture is long neck that drops south towards the Pease River. The southern most tip the ranch here is only 100 yards or so from the river. This neck consists of rolling hills and is filled with tall hackberry, elm, mesquite, and cottonwood trees. The whole area is dense in brush and thickets and provides some of the best hunting on the ranch. It also borders a 2,300 acre ranch on the east, so it is very private. There is another water tank on this side as well, which is regularly frequented by wild hogs.
The whitetail deer hunting on this tract is excellent, with genes in the area producing 160-170 B & C racks. The ranch is currently being managed tightly, with only mature deer being harvested. There are a couple flocks of turkeys that hang around on the ranch, and several cubbies of quail too. Lots mourning dove and other native birds nest here. The open pasture offers the potential to develop a duck hunting marsh as well.
On top of the ridge, overlooking the Pease River valley, is a rustic 2BD/1BTH hunting cabin. This cabin has a rural/community water line ran to it, and electricity too. It has a small kitchenette in it and a large carport attached to the front for a covered porch. The cabin is mostly completed; all it needs is the bathroom sink and shower installed, and a septic tank put in. It is livable as it stands right now, though.
The Ridge Bottom Ranch is a fantastic hunting ranch for its size. It has little hunting pressure around it and is mainly surrounded by farm land (alfalfa, wheat, and coastal). The ranch is located at the end of a paved public road and a full quarter mile south of it, so there no need to worry about road-hunters!
