No doubt about it... Wilsonia Village is an amazing place. Established in the very early 20th century, it provided a spot for valley residents to build a cabin on private property surrounded by the majesty of the Giant Sequoia's in the newly established Kings Canyon National Park. Today the village is on the National Registry. This cabin was built in 1939 and features 960sf with one bedroom one bath plus a loft for additional sleeping areas. It is a 2 story with storage areas under the deck. It has a great deck for sitting and a very majestic natural rock fireplace. The original outhouse is also still functional. This isn't uptown living but it is your chance to step back in time and experience life at 6,000 feet in a truly rustic environment. You can forget about the valley heat... a hot day up here might get to 80 degrees. And, just think about having a truly White Christmas... of course, later in winter there can be several feet of snow on the ground and you may have to snowshoe it in. You will be in easy walking distance to Grant Grove Village, the John Muir Lodge, and all of the walking and biking trails of the area. Plus, you are only minutes to Hume Lake and Cedar Grove in Kings Canyon (the deepest canyon in the world)and home to the mighty Kings River.
As always, we talk about any negatives. The cabin is old and needs some work and upgrading. The toilet is being repaired. The sitting deck is really neat but needs some work. Water is provided by a cistern that collects water from a natural spring and then transfers it to a holding tank. While it is functional, you might want to consider having a well drilled. The interior of the cabin is very livable but could use some finish work. The bottom line is that you have a very solid foundation to work with. Keep it natural and rustic or add the bells and whistles... its your choice.
The reason that these cabins very rarely come on the market is that they stay in a family for generations. The present owner is the original owner from back in 1939. Just think what having this property in your family will mean at the turn of the next century. Don't snooze on this one... if you do, it will be too late.
