LIVE WATER AND FISHING

Trout may be the big star for most fishing in the Wind River Valley, but lakes and streams offer a large selection of other fish, easily catchable from a boat or from atop the lakes frozen surfaces in the winter. In addition to trout fishing in the Wind River there are a number of lakes are reservoirs nearby, that offer catfish in Boysen Reservoir. Head to Bighorn Lake for smallmouth bass, yellow perch, and sturgeon, and find bluegill at Ocean Lake. Closest to the Ranch is Pilot Butte Reservoir, with year-round fishing including trout, ling, and crappie.

July is the hottest month for central Wyoming, with an average high temperature of 85.5. In Fremont County, summers are mild with temperatures between 70-85. This area is a semi-arid desert with 9 inches of rain and 51 inches of snow.

AREA HISTORY

Wind River Ranch is located in central Wyoming, 30 minutes west of Riverton and 45 minutes east of Dubois. Bordered by the Wind River Reservation, this ranching community has a rich history. Originally established in 1868, the Wind River Reservation is home to Shoshone and Arapaho Native American Tribes. These peoples lived in central Wyoming for thousands of years before White settlers began migrating west, following the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1804.

Since before Statehood, oil has played an important role in Wyomings economy. Oil was first discovered in the Wind River Valley in 1832, although the first oil well was not drilled for another 5 decades. Wind River Ranch has had productive oil wells in the past. Currently, the state of Wyoming has contracted to cap oil wells on the ranch and restore well sites to natural conditions. All mineral rights owned by Seller will convey with the property.
