Canyon Rim Ranch is dedicated to the preservation of the wildlife and vegetation on the ranch. Wildlife includes elk, mule deer, white tail deer, pronghorn antelope, coyotes, turkeys, sharp tail grouse, bobcats, and the occasional mountain lion. Canyon Rim Ranch consists of 2680 acres. The home was designed by Dick Knecht, and was built 10 years ago by Scull Construction, the largest commercial builder in Western South Dakota. It is a 3800 square foot 2 level walkout, with 4 bedrooms and 3 ½ bathrooms. It offers amazing views, which on a clear day extend as far south as Nebraska, and as far west as Wyoming. The lot is 10 acres.The house is energy efficient. It faces south, and the roof overhang was designed to let maximum sunlight into the living areas during the winter, and to minimize sunlight in the house and on the deck in the summer. It has a geothermal heating and cooling system. The frame is post and beam, with 10” Structural Insulated Panels on the roof, topped by steel shakes. The lower level walls on the north and west sides are below grade, and the upper level walls on the north side are 8” thick.The exterior is clad in Black Hills stone and cedar board and batten siding. There are numerous windows and patio doors, including doors for each bedroom.The kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, and built in cabinets and book cases were custom built from ash. The interior trim is ash as well. The hardwood floors are hickory, and the decking is Brazilian tiger wood. The counter tops are granite. There are 2 gas fireplaces, finished in Black Hills stone.
The property has a private well and also is connected to rural water, and has a 2500 gallon cistern providing additional storage and fire protection.
